🌟 Hello - it’s me, Kev - The Case Study Guy
The Ultimate Testimonial Method
You know that thing you promise to do for months, maybe even years?
Well, I finally did mine.
I’d been meaning to write a testimonial for my local chiropractor, John Jo at Carse Community Chiropractic, for ages. He’s brilliant. But every time I thought about it, I just didn’t get round to it. Life, work, building the business – it all got in the way.
It made me realise something.
Whether you’re being asked for a testimonial or you’re asking for one, it can be awkward.
"Can you give me a testimonial?"
"Erm, sure... I'd love to."
(Meanwhile: What do I say? How long? What tone? Help.)
A few weeks later...
"Hmmm, where’s my testimonial?"
So I decided to make it easier.
I built a tiny, practical framework I now call The Ultimate Testimonial Method™.
Here’s what I did
Instead of saying “Can you give me a testimonial?”, I created a handful of short, simple questions to guide my thinking.
Here are the questions I used for my long overdue testimonial:
What was the issue?
What was the impact?
What did I do?
What was the difference?
What was the lasting lesson?
Simple, right?
Those questions pulled out a story, not just a compliment.
To test it, I wrote three versions of my testimonial for John Jo.
A Bad Testimonial
John Jo is brilliant at what he does. He’s also a really nice chap.
A Better Testimonial
I had a really painful neck. After a few sessions with John Jo, it felt so much better. I highly recommend his services.
The Ultimate Testimonial
In early January, I woke up with the most excruciating neck pain I’ve experienced. I went to the Doctors on multiple occasions and on each time was prescribed stronger painkillers. I struggled to sleep and the medication made me feel awful.
A friend recommended Carse Community Chiropractic. After just a few sessions with John Jo the pain eased off. I was able to come off the medication entirely within just a few weeks. I made a full recovery within a month.
The treatment and care was great but for me it was the advice that made all the difference. John Jo identified an underlying issue with my posture. I’ve applied the changes he recommended and it’s made a massive difference to me. The frequent back and neck pain that troubled me for so long is now a thing of the past.
The “Ultimate” version works because it’s structured like a story.
It has a before, a during, and an after. It’s human, specific, and believable.
I ended up creating a couple of shorter versions before I worked up what I’m calling a micro case study version. It came to 323 words. (BTW if you want all of these examples in a single PDF, send me an email and I’ll fire it over to you. I wanted to avoid making this weeks email too long.)
Want to create your own Ultimate Testimonial?
I’m currently refining the model and will soon launch a simple PDF guide as well as a short, one-off coaching programme.
I’m testing the coaching side next week with three people. And I’d like to offer the same opportunity for the first three Proof Points subscribers (aka raving fans) that put their hands up. If you’d like a free 45-minute ‘Ultimate Testimonial Method’ coaching session, simply hit reply and say “Me please!”.
It will help me test the model. And it will help you learn a simple approach to create better testimonials without paying me $1 billion. (Pricing to be finalised!)
That’s it from me. Have a wonderful week!
